Today is a full moon. Even as a child, I found it fascinating and moving to gaze at the moon and the stars. It fills me with a sense of awe, an awareness of a higher power that is greater than myself. I keep looking out of the window eagerly to see if the moon is there yet. Finally, the moon’s glow appears over the hill in front of me. I sit down and admire the moonrise. After a few minutes, a bright orb appears on the horizon, illuminating the night. I marvel.
As I linger on my bench for a moment, I notice the many lights in the houses of my home village. So many people are now in their homes, missing this moving natural event.
Like the moon, God is naturally present. God works in this world and desires to connect with us humans. He does not impose himself. Perhaps he sometimes sits there, looking out at the world and wishing that people would come out of their homes and see him.
Unlike the moon, God is a person. He is full of love and mercy and longs to meet you.
