Ruth, from Moab and recently widowed, decides to take a courageous step: she accompanies her mother-in-law to her homeland of Israel and does not allow herself to be dissuaded from this plan.
But Ruth replied, “Do not urge me to leave you or to turn back from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
Ruth 1:16
Looking back, things turned out well for Ruth, as she remarried as a foreigner and was thus financially secure. But in between, there were certainly nights full of fear and worry.
There are also fears and worries in my life, but I can give them to Jesus in prayer. This means honestly telling him everything that is troubling me in prayer and trusting that he will guide me in his love and wisdom.

Ruth, aus Moab und jung verwitwet, entscheidet sich zu einem mutigen Schritt: Sie begleitet ihre Schwiegermutter in dessen Heimatland Israel und lässt sich nicht von diesem Vorhaben abbringen.
Aber Ruth erwiderte: «Besteh nicht darauf, dass ich dich verlasse! Ich will mich nicht von dir trennen. Wo du hingehst, da will auch ich hingehen. Wo du bleibst, da bleibe ich auch. Dein Volk ist mein Volk, und dein Gott ist mein Gott.»

Rückblickend hat sich das Blatt für Ruth zum Guten gewendet, indem sie als Fremde erneut geheiratet hat und somit finanziell abgesichert war. Dazwischen lagen aber bestimmt auch Nächte voller Ängste und Sorgen.
Auch in meinem Leben gibt es Ängste und Sorgen, die ich aber im Gebet an Jesus abgeben kann. Das bedeutet, ihm im Gebet ehrlich alles zu sagen, was mich bedrückt, und darauf zu vertrauen, dass er mich in seiner Liebe und Weisheit führt.

One of the most famous stories in the life of Jesus is the calming of the storm.
Imagine the disciples sitting in a boat with Jesus when suddenly a life-threatening storm breaks out. In panic they realize that they could die while Jesus sleeps peacefully.
Instead of counting on Jesus, the disciples allow themselves to be overcome by fear. When they finally beg him desperately to calm the storm, Jesus turns to them gently and asks, “Why are you afraid?” This question shows that it is not only about their belief in his power, but above all about their trust that he is with them even in the storm.
The disciples allow the situation to dictate their reaction instead of paying attention to how Jesus acts in their situation.
Jesus is still our strength, our protector, and our source of peace today. The God who was with the disciples in the boat back then is still with us today—in the midst of our storms. No matter what your storm looks like, Jesus is close to you. Nothing is impossible for God, and he never abandons those who trust in him.

Eine der bekanntesten Geschichten aus dem Leben Jesu ist die Stillung des Sturms.
Stell dir vor, wie die Jünger mit Jesus in einem Boot sitzen, als plötzlich ein lebensgefährlicher Sturm aufzieht. In Panik begreifen sie, dass sie sterben könnten, während Jesus friedlich schläft.
Anstatt auf Jesus zu schauen, lassen sich die Jünger von ihrer Angst beherrschen. Als sie ihn schliesslich verzweifelt anflehen, den Sturm zu stillen, wendet sich Jesus sanft an sie und fragt: «Warum habt ihr Angst?» Diese Frage zeigt, dass es nicht nur um ihren Glauben an seine Macht geht, sondern vor allem um ihr Vertrauen, dass er auch im Sturm bei ihnen ist.
Die Jünger lassen sich von der Situation ihre Reaktion vorschreiben, statt darauf zu achten, wie Jesus in ihrer Lage handelt.
Jesus ist auch heute unsere Stärke, unser Beschützer und unsere Quelle des Friedens. Der Gott, der damals mit den Jüngern im Boot war, ist auch heute bei uns – mitten in unseren Stürmen. Ganz gleich, wie dein Sturm aussieht: Jesus ist dir nahe. Nichts ist für Gott unmöglich, und er verlässt niemanden, der auf ihn vertraut.
Darf Jesus in deinem Boot Platz nehmen? Dann darf Jesaja 41,13 deine persönliche Verheissung werden.

Today is a full moon. Even as a child, I found it fascinating and moving to gaze at the moon and the stars. It fills me with a sense of awe, an awareness of a higher power that is greater than myself. I keep looking out of the window eagerly to see if the moon is there yet. Finally, the moon’s glow appears over the hill in front of me. I sit down and admire the moonrise. After a few minutes, a bright orb appears on the horizon, illuminating the night. I marvel.
As I linger on my bench for a moment, I notice the many lights in the houses of my home village. So many people are now in their homes, missing this moving natural event.
Like the moon, God is naturally present. God works in this world and desires to connect with us humans. He does not impose himself. Perhaps he sometimes sits there, looking out at the world and wishing that people would come out of their homes and see him.
Unlike the moon, God is a person. He is full of love and mercy and longs to meet you.
